Mogadishu police chief sacked minutes after banning a parliamentary session

The head of police in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, prevented MPs from meeting today, saying he did so to prevent any extension of the president’s term.

The capital’s police chief, Sadiq Omar Hassan, said live on “Universal Somalia” TV that he prevented the parliament session from taking place today.

A police statement said that the Somali Police Commissioner dismissed the Mogadishu police chief for preventing him from holding the parliamentary session after a few minutes.
