The state of Puntland in northeastern Somalia, in a statement issued yesterday, expressed its concern over the outgoing president’s obstruction of efforts to resolve obstacles to holding parliamentary and presidential elections in the country.

This came in response to a statement issued by Farmajo yesterday, in which he invited the heads of states and the governor of Banadir region to a consultative conference to be held in Mogadishu.

Puntland indicated that it is always ready to participate in conferences aimed at finding solutions to differences and holding consensual elections on the basis of the September 17, 2021 agreement. However, it called for a consultative conference to be held at Mogadishu airport, with the United Nations and the African Union Mission in Somalia “AMISOM” assuming responsibility for securing the conference. .

Puntland affirmed its support for the efforts made by Prime Minister Muhammad Husayn Robley and the Union of Presidential Candidates to prepare the atmosphere for talks that pave the way for the holding of comprehensive and consensual elections in the country.
