Somali army force opposing the extension starts moving in the northern suburbs of the capital Mogadishu

Somalia | Times Of Sudan

Details have emerged about a Somali army force opposing the extension of outgoing President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo to the northern outskirts of Mogadishu.

According to the Jawhar news website, the force, which travels with large numbers of military vehicles, withdrew from its bases in parts of the Middle Shabelle region, adjacent to the capital, Mogadishu.

The Somali army commander, General Uduwa Yusuf Raghi, met at midnight last night with the officers leading that force and asked them to return to their barracks, but they refused.

Sources indicated that the leadership of this rebel force in protest against the extension of the mandate of the Somali president and the parliament intend to make statements to the media to express their position rejecting the extension.

It is noteworthy that the outgoing Somali government is still insisting on the extension, which was adopted by the Somali People’s Assembly on April 12th, despite widespread domestic and international opposition to that illegal decision.
