The Public Prosecutor orders the arrest of the Qatari Finance Minister

The Qatar News Agency said that the Public Prosecutor had ordered the arrest of Qatar’s Minister of Finance, Ali Sharif Al-Emadi.

The arrest of the minister comes as a result of his questioning about the reports of crimes related to the public office, such as damage to public money, exploitation of the position and abuse of power.

Ali Sharif Al-Emadi, who was appointed Minister of Finance in June 2013, is Chairman of the Board of Directors of Qatar Airways, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Qatar National Bank.

He was appointed Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Tourism Council in November 2018, and he is a member of the Supreme Council for Economic Affairs and Investment.

The minister, who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from the University of Arizona in America, held the position of CEO of Qatar National Bank between 2005 and 2013.
