The Sudanese army announced the arrest of fighters from Chad and South Sudan, within the Rapid Support Forces, in the city of Omdurman, west of the capital, Khartoum.

The Sudanese army said, in a statement, that it arrested “mercenaries” from Chad and South Sudan at the Rapid Support Forces command and control headquarters at the radio and television headquarters in Omdurman, without mentioning their number.

The statement said that the militants were “recruited and deceived by the Rapid Support with financial promises,” and noted that most of those arrested were “minor children who were deceived.” He confirmed that these fighters would be brought to fair trials, in accordance with international laws.

On March 12, the Sudanese army announced that it had regained control of the headquarters of the Radio and Television Corporation in Omdurman from the Rapid Support Forces, which had controlled the site since the outbreak of war on April 15, 2023.

For nearly a year, the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces have been fighting a war that has left about 13,900 people dead and more than 8 million displaced and refugees, according to the United Nations.
